how often do you guys have colonscopy?

I get one done every 1 - 2 years

It all depends on the severity and extent of the disease.  Now that things have calmed down my GI doc would like me to have a colonscopy every two years.

I had two colonoscopies done and one sigmoidoscopy. I haven't reached the 10-year mark yet. My main reason for getting them done was to see the condition of my colon. I can't see inside there without being scoped. I don't plan to get another one done until I reach the 10-year mark.

I trust my GI when it comes to doing scopes. He is quite conservative when doing them. He won't go all the way up the colon is he doesn't need to or if the colon is too inflamed.

Full colonoscopy every 2 years, but I have had a LOT of flex sigs in between, and he tends to do those a lot more frequently.

If you have only had UC for a few years you can certainly wait 5 or even 10 years if you so desire. Those of us who have had it for decades, even if in full remission most of that time, are supposed to get them every year or two for cancer screening. I have noticed that few GI's take a large numbe rof biopsies when they do that, but one article that I have read in the journal of gastroenteroligy suggests one needs at least 40+ biopsies to assure 95% confidence of catching pre-cancer in longstanding (eg me) UC patients. (In my case it was diagnosed more recently but I know from symptoms, decades back, that I have had it for decades). Additionally, pre-cancer screening for UC involves risk completely independent of polyps, wheeras for non UC people the risk is associated almost exclusively with polyps- i.e. in UC the risk is associated with so-called "flat" lesions that are not conected to any polyp.  Therefore I am very insistent on them taking large number of random biopsies.  But a few years after diagnosis, your risk is negligable.
