OT - Honeymoon location suggestions?

I am supposed to be coming up with a possible honeymoon location. Thanks to the "getting to know each other thread", I see that we have many world travelers here! I am partial to the Bahamas or possibly Eastern Canada (I am from Western Canada and have never been east except for an extremely short trip to Toronto for a concert). My fiance wants to go to the United States, as I have never been. Any places you loved? Any places you would never go to again? Any places you never wanted to leave? *L* Please help me out!

I guess it depends on what you're looking for. If you want a cultural/educational trip there are tons of places to go in the US. If you want something tropical I'd suggest Hawaii because it was absolutely beautiful or if you want to go further east in the US maybe Florida?

I agree - what are some of the things you like to do? Do you want cities vs. beaches for example. Sightseeing vs. just relaxing by a pool with a great view. If you can describe the perfect honeymoon activities you'd like to be doing, PG of course :), maybe we can help.

I went to Hawaii 4 fours back for mine. OMG! It was awesome!!! I had just been diagnosed with UC so we wanted to go somewhere that had good healthcare, food, but was still not too americanized..we visited a few islands, experienced a 6.7 quake lol ..but it was such an amazing experience.

We also went to aruba last year..and we loved that too..the food was amazing and you can drink the tap water there , its very clean and the weather is HOT there and not humid..it was very therapeutic and my UC did not act up at all there...:) ahhh we are planning to go back in September!

Places I'd go back to in a heartbeat....

Paris, France; anywhere in Italy; Bermuda; loved Philadelphia; and of course my own California coast...beautfiful! Another thing to consider....what month during the year are you getting married? That might also be a consideration when looking into locations -- such as San Francisco in summer is sooo cold, but the spring and fall is beautiful!

Are you looking to stay in the Americas or would you consider venturing further a field? agree with previous posts about what you are looking to do. South Africa is awesome for going on a safari, somewhere like Fiji has stunning beaches, Italy is stunning for culture and good food and romance. I've always thought that the Maldives looks amazing for completely relaxing - or Bora Bora which is off Tahiti (I was meant to be going there for my 30th but we had to change our plans) both of these places have luxurious over water bungalows and very pricey. Or, if looking for amazing beaches with either cheap backpacker options there's always Thailand (they have pricey options too)!

We went on a week long cruise to the Southern Caribbean. Loved it!!!

I don't know if this qualifies as a "honeymoon" spot, but NYC would be my choice for pretty much any type of holiday. whatever you decide, enjoy!

We want to relax, and I would like to go someplace warm, but not scorching hot. No safaris or jungle or anywhere that requires vaccinations. Beaches would be nice, some shopping would also be nice. I've been to Paris and am not in any rush to go back. My fiance is from the UK, so that is out, as well as France and Spain.

Atlantis Paradise Island, Bahamas!!  My choice.  I have not been there but seen a lot of video, etc.

Hawaii is wonderful too - medium temps and great things to do!

Well, my husband and I went to Disneyworld!  lol!

But if you are looking for beaches and shopping and not too hot...Hawaii my dear is the place!  If you go to Oahu you will have beautiful beaches plus all the shopping in Waikiki and Honolulu.

Maui is more the relaxed Honeymoon place I believe, I don't know what kind of shopping they have there, you can check.

The Big Island has it's own beauty as well...plus an active volcano!

I hear Maine is pretty and it's prolly sort of like Canada and you can eat a bunch of lobster. Yum.

I really don't know though, I haven't really been anywhere. Ooh. But the UP here in Michigan is so nice. Quiet spots and lakes.

Maui has lots to do (in my opinion). There was a lot of shopping in Kihei and Lahaina. The drive to Hana was freaking amazing. I've been a lot of places in the US and the Caribbean and Hawaii was by far my favorite.

we went to new orleans, and it was really nice, would have been more fun if i hadnt been sick then, lol. But still fun! Also would have been more if i had started drinking then, lol.
Lots of different stuff to do. Historical stuff, gambling, bars, great food, the river, bars, cool scary trips through cemetiries, did i mention bars? lol

I've traveled quite a bit - about 20 countries I guess.  We decided to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon.  At first I thought oh what a cliche, everyone goes to Hawaii.  Well there's a reason - it's awesome!  We did Maui and Kauai, 2 great but very different islands.  I didn't have UC at the time, but especially now that I have it, I'd recommend it.  It has touches of exotic but the convenience of US ammenities.

Yeah it's a safe choice.  Other trips sure we've gone riskier and struck out as well as hit home runs, but we didn't really feel like gambling on location for our honeymoon.

If you decide on the US, Hawaii and then California, in particular northern California.

I've never been to Hawaii.

Northern California possibilities include shopping, shows, cable cars, and a walk along the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Chinese food in San Francisco's China Town. A little farther north are the wineries in Napa Valley. South along the coast are the Santa Cruz beach boardwalk, the elephant seals at Ano Nuevo (north of Santa Cruz) from January through August, the aquarium in Monterrey. The drive alone the coast alone is worth it. East of Sacramento is Apple Hill, which has luscious home-baked apple goodies and beautiful artwork from early September to late October. Northeast of Sacramento is Lake Tahoe, which is popular for skiing and snow boarding during the winter and lake activities and mountain biking in the summer. Plus, there are plenty of parks in Northern California for hiking. My favorite is Henry Cowell, which is near Santa Cruz. You can take a scenic train ride from Henry Cowell to the Santa Cruz boardwalk. You can also hike to the Garden of Eden, a swimming hole in the park on the San Lorenzo River. In the summer, during the warm months, I often tell my boyfriend that every weekend is like being on a honeymoon with him...

I would think for a honeymoon you would want to go somewhere relaxing so I think Hawaii is a good option. The Caribbean is amazing too... I am not sure why your fiancee wants to go to the US, maybe he wants to show you a particular city? The best cities to visit, in my opinion, are San Francisco and NY. I wouldn't want to spend a week+ in a smaller city with less culture. I have traveled all over the US, I love a variety of cities but many, I wouldn't be able to keep myself busy in for longer than a few days (Las Vegas for example). I live in Los Angeles and while it's nice to visit, I can't imagine vacationing here as a honeymoon. I find there is not much to do here besides eat and shop. There is so much traffic, getting to the beach is a chore, getting anywhere is a chore. You could travel the California coast, it is truly beautiful but probably not a good way to relax because driving is always a stress. Have you thought about going to Cabo San Lucas? I always hear good things...

For my Honeymoon. We went to the Bahamas and stayed at Sandals Resort. Great place. All Inclusive. No tipping. 7 pools/3 big jacuzzi's, several restaurants on site, the Resort had its own private beach just for guests of the hotel. Stayed 1 week and did not want to leave. Casino also nearby.

Why not look into coastal Maine? It's gorgeous, with really moderate temps in August. My family went on vacation there when I was 10 or so, and I've always wanted to go back. It's not what you typically think of a "beach" vacation, though. I personally would stay away from the Carribbean that time of year...hurricane season!

Mid-August? I would skip Vegas and New Orleans, unless you want to sweat off the wedding cake pounds!
I went to Iceland with some friends back in 2000, and it is one place I would recommend to anyone. It was fantastic. You won't find any warm beaches, but there are a multitude of natural hot springs where you can relax and soak it all in. It is more of a walking/driving vacation with tons of sightseeing trips and completely unique landscapes (i.e. volcanoes, geysers, lava fields, glaciers, etc). In August you can expect weather in the 60's or so, very comfortable, and all the people are friendly and amazing. Now I want to go back.
I hear it is comparable to New Foundland, which is somewhere my wife and I plan to visit in the near future.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!
I have to put my two cents' worth in.....I LOVE Aruba and would recommend it in a heartbeat! Very relaxing, beautiful, great restaurants and 78 to 82 degrees every day of the year with a light breeze. I'd previously been to other warm/tropical locations (Bahamas, Cancun, Acapulco) but since my first trip to Aruba 13 years ago it's the only place I've returned to again and again! Next time I go, I plan on buying a timeshare!

I've vacationed throughout the US, I would highly recommend San Francisco....could be a bit chilly though. I was there in August a few years back, the temperature never rose above 60 degrees. It is beautiful, however, and there are lots of fun things to do. I live in the Boston area and the east coast is still icky-sticky humid in August. Temperature is a bit cooler at Cape Cod, but the crowds and traffic in the summer are insane. Temperatures are cooler up north in New Hampshire and Maine............and Ogunquit, Maine is LOVELY.

I've been to eastern Canada several times, Toronto was my favorite location.........................have fun planning your honeymoon, wherever you decide to go I hope you have a wonderful time!

I also loved Maui. You can't go wrong there! But take your own car on the drives, not the tour bus, so you don't have to worry about needing to make a stop!
I didn't like Oahu nearly as much, it's a busy city atmosphere. Big Island is good if you just want to chill out at your resort.
Southern US and Caribbean will be super hot in August, but New England would be nice.
