In answer to your question as to why I'm on Flagyl, it was initially prescribed for what was thought to be diverticulitis. I also took Levaquin, which had terrible side effects. After a month of weight loss, dehydration and weakness, I had a CAT scan which showed the UC inflammation. Following an almost immediate colonoscopy, the diagnosis was left sided UC and proctitis. I had already had stool tests, which were all negative, but during a 5 day hospital stay, I was still placed on Flagyl thru IV along with mega doses of prednisone. I believe the Flagyl was prescribed because I had a temperature and night sweats. I remained on both medications for a couple of months, had started Asacol, and finally after about
4 months of tapering down on the steroids, I was doing much better ... until last month.
Again, they started me on Flagyl, even though more stool tests were negative. I was initially on 20mg of prednisone but have since tapered down to 15mg. I'm still not doing that well, especially with the rectal and anal pain, several BMs a day and some bleeding. I now wonder though if I should question the GI doctors about
the Flagyl, now that I have noticed few if any others taking it for UC. Sorry for the long post. I'm new at this and full of questions and craving as much knowledge and information I can gather. Thanks.
