Food poisoning or UC acting up?

I woke up this morning at 6am feeling very nauseous. My stomach hurt intensely, like more than I've ever felt with colitis (that I can remember anyways). I was almost in tears.

I had 3 BMs in about 15 minutes, about medium regarding loose/solid (basically soft I guess) almost no blood with each one.

A few minutes later I decided I needed to throw up. Threw up about 3 or 4 times (one "session"), mostly liquid.

Two friends and I had gone to Waffle House around 12:45am and I had a Cheesesteak omelet and hashbrowns. I'm wondering if something in the omelet is the culprit. My friends didn't get sick (they ordered different food though)

After I vomited, the nausea left and I fell asleep. I feel absolutely fine today, no increased pain or diarrhea or anything.

Is it possible for food poisoning to be that quick? I thought it usually lasts around 24 hours. Just wondering if I should be concerned.

That definitely sounds like it could be food poisoning or a tummy virus of some sort. It most definitely doesn't sound like your UC, anyway.

I have had mild food poisoning in the past where I basically was just sick kind of overnight like you said but that was before I had UC so I'm not sure! Burger King was the culprit for me. And like you I only got sick once, maybe twice. It was not like a GI virus at all for me.

That sounds a bit like what I went through last Saturday night. I woke up at around 10:30pm after falling asleep around 9pm.. I had the most horrible stomach cramps and had D so bad all night that I was able to have a colonoscopy Monday without even prepping... lol... I'm thinking if I would have just thrown up, maybe the D wouldn't have lasted as long since I would have gotten rid of a bunch of it that way...

I'll just bet it was food poisioning... I don't even eat out anymore because I always get sick from one thing or another when I do eat out...

And, food poisoning can leave you as fast as it hits you sometimes, depending on what type of bacteria you ingested...

Glad you are feeling better now, but keep an eye on your U/C to make sure you didn't stir up anything...

The window for food poisoning is pretty wide, depending on the exact kind of food poisoning.....but I had an episode similar to your once and my beloved former GI told me that about 4 hours after the offending food is common.

I had some pretty severe food poisoning a couple of months ago - I thought it was pretty obvious that it wasn't my UC, especially during the first 24 hours when it was at its worst.

I had food poisoning once some 20 years ago. I was living in Hong Kong at the time. I ate some fish, and ended up spending some 12 hours lying on the bathroom floor. I was having contractions that felt similar to delivering my babies. I was too sick to get a doctor. I read in the newspaper the next? day that some people had to be hospitalized due to getting food poisoning from eating contaminated fish. There was some sort of dumping of chemicals/metals? in the bay and some fish had gotten contaminated as a result. I don't remember the details, but I must have eaten one of those fish. This was long before I started getting colitis flares.
