I've had ulcerative proctitis for over eleven years. At the moment, tapering my prednisone which I believe I have become dependent on. Yes, the rectal meds DO work. My doctor has prescribed the cort enemas but I was so inflamed I was unable to retain them. For awhile I was using the cortafoam (Proctofoam I believe it is called). Now I am healing and am able to retain the enema for at least half an hour. My doctor said better than nothing, even if it gets a coat. I also find that Canasa suppositories work very well.
Good luck to you. This is not an easy ordeal to go through but think positively, that better days are ahead. Don't let it get you down. Remember, you have a lot of help here in this forum. These people have been my ROCKS!!!
