Ulcerative colitis medis

Hi All,

I just visited my new doctor today. She really wanted to put me on ramicade, but I requested her to try something that was not as strong, so we agreed on trying lailda and enemas for my left sided colitis.

I have been on 6MP for a year now and I hate it. 6MP just does not work. My new doctor told me that if I have not been on remission with 6MP there is a very rare chance that I will get into remission on the 5ASA type drugs.

Anyone has had such an experience?

Well, you don't know until you try....and give it a fair chance.

I wouldn't start on the highest dosage of Lialda....I's suggest you start at about 2400mg (or 2 daily) and increase if you need.

Ask for Rowasa retention enemas.....nightly until your symptoms cease....and continue for another week or two and then taper to every second night.

If you can take 5ASA meds without problems, your compliance with them could lead you to success and a way to deal with flares and tapering to maintenance.

Yes, it's a commitment....but it's alarming how many docs don't even use this first-line med regimen.
