Arrghhh,

I'v been in glorious remission since September, and now I've been diagnosed with a Urinary Tract Infection. My CPC has prescribed Cipro, to start immediatly. Just what I need, an antibiotic! shocked

Be very careful with cipro. Take a really good probiotic at least 2 hours after the anti...

blah, I went through a 30 day treatment with that stuff for my salmonella

Thank god, in addition to flaring, I also broke out in a nasty rash, so I'm now officially classified as allergic to cipro

I feel your pain - I was doing OK until I got a horrible flu and made the mistake of visiting a clinic, getting prescribed Zithromax, and immediately lapsing into liquid explosive D which has been with me for a month now. The flu disappeared immediately too...

Well, I'm well into my third day of Cipro, and doing OK. The UTI seems to be well on its way out, and my guts haven't blown up yet. I had to stop taking iron, and my multi vits (iron in them). Also my Metamucil has a lot of iron, so I have to adjust the time when I take that.

The first day I had plenty gas, but that seems to have settled down, so I’m feeling pretty good right now. Only five more days to go (fingers crossed)!

     My GI doctor always has me take Flagyl when I am on Cipro..which wasn't very often.  He said the Flagyl keeps the good bacteria from being killed off.

I just recently got over a UTI. Those are horrible, I felt terrible. I'm glad to hear that you're not having any issues with the Cipro. I can't take Cipro or it gives me majorly runny D - no pain or bleeding, just a lot of D. I was prescribed Macrobid and it cleared my UTI up but it bothered my Uc a bit.

I can put up with some D for a week or so to get rid of the UTI, it's not like I've never had it before. I just don't want it to trigger a flare. So far so good.

 

I think the UTI has been hiding out since my BAD UC flare in the summer of '08, with occasional mild flares of its own. My PCP hasen't been hearing my complaints about it, since being male, UTIs are unusual. But I've been prone to them for most of my life. I'm glad she finally caught it.

Yes, I am highly prone to UTI's as well. I would say that I've had approximately 25 of them since I was 16 (I'm 40 now). But I agree that there is nothing worse then a UTI and we will do anything to make it better.
