Does this cause trouble in relation to UC ..... or potentially help for that matter?
I have been recommended eating it for some issues with my back (osteoarthritis in my back).

I tried it and thought it contributed to bleeding, but, sometimes it is hard to tell.....

According to this link:
http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/glucosamine-000306.htm
"Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are two inflammatory bowel diseases marked by chronic, frequent bloody diarrhea. Some preliminary clinical evidence suggests that N-acetyl glucosamine oral supplements or enemas may help improve symptoms of IBD in children who have not improved with standard medical treatment. However, the study was small and lacked a control group, so it is impossible to say whether glucosamine really worked. More research is needed."
No definite proof that it helps but probably couldn't hurt ulcerative colitis.

This article might help regarding which one to take. I've been told that the HCL is easier on the stomach...

I've been taking it for knee issues and it doesn't seem to have any negative impact on my UC. I'm taking it in capsule form. I looked at a bottle of the liquid form and on the label it warns against taking it if you have stomach issues or problems with bowel movements so I didn't buy it.
