I have severe UC flare, C-Diff & CMV all at the same time - anyone had such experience?

After 10 days in the hospital got discharged on oral prednisone. Few days later got diagnosed with C-Diff and CMV.

Has any of you had similar experience? How hard do you think it will be to get these under control?

I recommend fecal transplantation for C-diff, and then probiotics:

I've seen quite a few people here with UC and c.diff. Not seen so many with CMV.

OMG, CMV as well....it's good you were tested for it. Were you tested via stool samples or biopsies to determine if it's in your colon? I read it can cause bloody stool and colon ulceration, could you be misdiagnosed with UC?

I've not been in your situation, don't have c.diff and have no idea if I've been tested for CMV.

I'm assuming you have been on antibiotics for the c.diff....will you be having more testing done to make sure it's gone?

I think looking into the fecal implant might be something at least worth investigation...

Regarding the CMV....is it active at this point?

It's sad to hear you having to go through this...

hey, I had c.diff the christmas before last aswell as a flare up of UC. I had symptoms of inflammation, exactly like other episodes and I was very surprised when they told me that I had c.diff. The doctors told me that Id gotten it because of the amount of antibiotics I had been taking had upset the healthy bacteria in my bowel. I think it turned out that I may be a carrier for c.diff. I was treated with antibiotics, and I was ok, after a while. As regards to CMV, you will have to excuse my ignorance, I dont really know what it is.

Quincy - I was tested via biopsy for CMV and yes, it is active in the colon. I am on Pred for UC, Vancomycin for C-Diff and another antibiotic for CMV (IV).

lizziemc - CMV is very common virus that is usually contracted in childhood but stays inactive. It usually flares only when the immune system is severely weakened and even then rarely is active in the colon. In my case though it is active in the colon.

So I am fighting three things at once now all affecting my colon. Will see what happens.

Is fecal transplantation even done in the US? I thought it was only offered at one hospital in Australia?
