Question about Canasa and Rowasa

It says on the box to use the Canasa suppository at night before bedtime, but that's when I'm using the enema.

Do I do both?

I've been using the suppository during the day after my bowel movement.

What do you think?

When my doctor had me on both I was supposed to do the enema at night and the suppository in the morning, but I'd call and ask if you're not sure what he intended...

Ellen, what you're doing makes sense to me, to coat the surface with it during the day with the suppository and during the night with the enema - but if you have questions about that, of course ask your doctor!
I think the instructions on the suppositories assume that they are the only rectal med we will ever need...... :-)

That's what I used to do Ellen also, use the Canasa in the AM and the Rowasa at night.. Seemed like overkill to do them both at the same time... Plus you get more constant attention the area using one in AM and one at PM..

It's what the doctor wants for now. Enemas every other night and Canasa Daily. I'll no on Thursday about my adrenal function. I took a cortisol test while on 0 and 7.5 mg pred. Not sure what he wants me to do next if I have OK adrenal function.

Yes, do what you're doing with the tapering, but You could use a suppository on the nights you're not using the enemas and then in the day as you are doing.

It would be best to not taper the enemas until after you're off the pred...

But, you can increase the enemas rather than increase the pred if you need to..

I'm giving my new doc the good ol' college try and listening to his ideas. He's pro rectal enemas and suppositories. After all, he says, it begins and ends in the rectum. He's having me taper the enemas now to every other night even though I'm still on 7.5 and 0 alternating. He still has me on 12 asacol a day.

He did scope me two weeks ago and I saw everything was very clean. He was pleased.

Yes, rectal meds where one needs them...interesting concept many doctors ingore.

He also has me still on Canasa daily. Just took the cortisol function test. Will knnow results by next week, hopefully good. Then I wonder where you go from 7.5 and 0 on the taper.
