I have Crohns

OK-I have to chime in with a question also since my diagnosis was not 100% UC either. Say you do have to lose your pouch due to pouchitis. That means you've lost your colon and part (most?) of your ileum. To what degree does that affect your body's ability to obtain its required nutrients?

I do know a woman who had terrible CD in the 70's? 80's?. Anyway, she apparently had a quack doctor who practically considered surgery a treatment. She lost her colon and a large portion of her small intestines. It was to the point that if she lost anymore she would have to be on a feeding tube.

She is in her 60's now, doing great, and just has to be very careful about what she eats. I was very glad to get the chance to talk with her because it seemed like she had had parts of her intestines removed practically indiscriminately and is still chugging along!

She is my aunt's best friend of a few decades. When my aunt casually told her about my illness last year, the woman with CD said yes, I have CD and I've had a bag the entire time we've known each other. My aunt didn't have a clue until that day.
