I am not sure you saw this in my other post but I wanted to hear your response to this...

Sue I find your last two sentences very interesting. Are you saying that if my flare is not currently responding that great to my 5asas that in maybe days weeks or months it could all of a sudden respond? How so if I have been taking these all along and they didnt prevent the flare in the first place? I can imagine it would be a lot worse without them.

I think mine has started responding to Canasa again. I was going nuts using foam cort enemas and I was just getting worse or staying the same. The other day I switched back to Canasa and I am doing a lot better. It's hard to say whether it is from the Canasa though or if the 6mp is starting to help, of course, the high dose of prednisone is probably the most helpful. I finally feel like I am on track to improvement. I was getting really worried for a while, even at a high dose of pred and cort enemas, I was not seeing much improvement. I switched some of my other medications, stopped one, started anxiety meds. There are just too many variables. I am going to contunie using Canasa and ask my doctor about Rowasa enemas when I see her.

Some meds can take up to 3 months to really get in and start working, and take up to six months to get out after you stop taking them!

Yes, that is what I said.  UC is unpredictable at best but I am a firm believer in riding out a mild-moderate flare with the lower class drugs and not tossing prednisone in the mix unless symptoms are severe.  Flares can range from lasting a day to several years but as long as symptoms are manageable, one should steer clear of using prednisone as a quick fix.

That is my opinion but you should clearly follow your doctor's advice.
