Hi guys,

I have had ulcerative colitis for 6+ years

I was horribly sick a few weeks ago. I was going to the toilet 20+ times a day, losing a lot of blood and in a lot of pain. I hadn't been on medication so the doctor put me on colizide -  3 tablets 2 times a day and prednisolone 25mg 1 tablet a day.

The weird thing about my colitis over the past 6 months has been that there has been plenty of bright red blood, but no puss at all anymore.

I had a colonoscopy today, just 2 weeks after such bad symptoms - and it came back perfectly clear, The doctor said there was no sign of my colitis at all. He seemed to not believe me when I reminded him that only 2 weeks prior I had been loosing so much blood.

In addition to this I have had a speckled ANA reading of 1:12500. Could the bleeding be from something that isn't my colitis? Nothing  showed on the colonoscopy and I also had a gastroscopy showing nothing.

The doctor made me feel like I had imagined up all my symptoms to begin with... but I can't fgorget how sick I was, losing so much blood and passing out a few times.

Can the medicine have just worked really quickly or is something else at play here? I go back in for an appointment in a week to see how the biopsys went but the doctor seems to think I'm insane!

Is it normal to have colitis with no puss or mucas?

I dont have puss or mucus..never have. Only blood. With my first flare..the meds helped immediately and I Went into remission straight away..could be the same case for you..keep us posted.

Yes, it can definitely happen. Do you have diarrhea as well? or just blood?

How many times a day are you going?

Strange your scope shows nothing visible...do you have hemmies?

Please make sure you get a copy of the biopsy pathology report...as well as all your blood tests.

Is the doc going to send you to a rheumy?

Hi quincy,

No hemmies. I was going to the toilet 20-30 times a day up until less than a week before my colonoscopy, but then I got heavily constipated

I still don't feel like my bowel is back to normal however the colonoscopy seemed to reveal that it is.

I see my specialist again on Wednesday to get the results of the biopsys (They did quite a few I'm told!). If he doesn't get me in front of a rheumy I'll get the GP to refer me.

Please, please make sure you get a copy of the biopsy pathology report. That way YOU know what's stated rather than only having your doctor say "all is OK".

The constipation seems your rectum should still have at least shown some inflammation....

You should push for rectal meds...

Let us know how the appt goes.
