Colonoscopy last week

Hey guy,

I had my first full colonoscopy last week doing the prep and everything, I have to say the procedure was not anywhere near as bad as I had imagined with the sedation and pain killers I was pretty relaxed and comfortable. They results were that there were signs of inflammation throughout (i have just been coming out of a flare, back down to just taking the asacol now after oral pred and predfoam enemas) But the doc doing the precedure said my colon look pretty good.

Anyway now I am starting to feel like I might be heading into another flare, I felt ok the first few days after the procedure pretty firm bowel movement but after a few days I have noticed my BM get slightly more loose and frequent each day. I spoke to the GI office today to see what they think and the nurse told me to wait it out the weekend and see how I go as she said the procedure can have an affect for quite a few days after. and the reason I was not have the loose BM's to begin with was because it takes a couple of days for the food I have begun to eat again to store up

I was wonder does this sound normal to anyone else here the the first couple of days your BM's are not too bad after the procedure but then after that you begin to notice some change before it gets better again?

Just hope I am not heading for another flare up :-(

FWIW, I did just a sigmoidoscopy.  I was not having any major symptoms, just a little bit of blood in my poop.  Then I had a sigmoidoscopy, and had diarrhea for a month afterwards.  Ugh!  Certainly these procedures can change the "population" of your gut and for those of us with already out of balance bacterial populations, I think this can be pretty detrimental.  I hope you get back to normal (whatever that may be for you) soon!

Relax, this is very common after a procedure such as a colonscopy.  I was doing perfect until I had one last year.  Then I started flaring, it last for 1-2 months.  My GI doc said a procedure like this can really disrupt the colon.  My colon got better and went back into remission.  All I am trying to say is that a colonscopy can definitely stir things up but it will usually go back to normal.

Usually I get an increase of symptoms (even while in remission) and bleeding (from the biopsies) after having a scope done for about a week. It takes a while for things to stablize again. However, definately call the doc back if you are getting worse and if continues over the weekend.

Are you still on the enemas? Maybe you could ask for the 5ASA mesalamine retention enemas...Rowasa if you're in the US.

Pretty good doesn't mean perfect....when you get the results of the biopsies, make sure you have a copy.

Yes....after the scope, I'll have bleeding from the biopsies for up to 4 days...my doc takes 30 - 36 biopsies...so that's a norml to have bleeding.
