For those avoiding nitrites in lunch meats.

I was able to find bacon that has no nitrates etc, from Hormel at my local grocery store.

I had two episodes of a UC like flare triggered by eating large amounts of cured meats(genoa salami and pepperoni) before I was diagnosed.

I do wonder how safe these products are without the nitrites/nitrates? They do keep bacteria at bay. People are used to storing lunch meat and bacon differently than fresh meat.

Even the Hormel "natural choice" has Carrageenan in it. Applegate Farms is another brand boasting "naturalness" and does not have the nitrites. Yet, the the Carrageenan is listed.

I think there are even some fancy Boars Head items w/o the Nitrites but I am sure it has that ol' Carrageenan in it.

Yea, check out that sodium. I wouldn't make this a regular part of the diet. Great when you're craving it, on the go, in a hurry, got no idea what to make for dinner, it's 105 out...

Though, a few baked chicken or turkey breasts shaved in a Cuisinart can be much healthier and cheaper in the long run.

I have been looking for Hormel new luncheon meats.  I think nitrates don't bother me much but rather go without them.  Cooking my own sandwich meat is best but just doesn't get done.  My husband misses his bologna!

Have not found them yet but my choices are limited unless I drive into the city which planning on doing soon!
