Hi Steve
I use Asacol supps 500mg at night and they seem to be ok. I had 2 flares years ago where I doubled up on the asacol supps so that I was inserting one at night and one in the morning and that was fine - I went back into remission but with my last flare the UC has obviously spread and the asacol supps no longer did the trick. I went onto cortizone tablets and then the cortizone enemas which cleared me up (also asacol tablets for a while.) Now that I'm in remission again, I use the asacol supps every night to maintain remission (hopefully.) I think if the UC hasn't spread more than 4-5cm of the rectum, then the asacol supps should work but mine had spread about
7cm up and they no longer worked. Not sure, it's different for everyone. They also may not be strong enough. My GI says that (here in Cape Town) there is a stronger make suppository that has come out. You probably get it already in the States.
Go well
