Voltaren Gel

With my GI not allowing me to take Celebrex or Meloxicam I have been in alot of pain for arthritis.  During my last Remicade infusion the Rheumatologist gave me a script for Voltaren Gel.  My GI was not happy but advised me to use it sparingly.  It cost 30.00 so I thought I would give it a try.  I find it does help a little - especially on my hands and knees but I certainly don't apply it at the recommended 4 times a day.  I am using it a couple of times a week at night.  So far I haven't had any side effects.

I was wondering if anyone else has tried this gel and did they get a flare or have adverse side effects?

@Nor_TX - I have UC and NSAID's have been bad for me in the past. Tweaked my neck over the weekend, took 2 motrin - no problems. And now using Voltaren(diclofenac sodium topical gel) without any UC interaction. Neck is fairly far from the colon, and I'm in good health/remission - I'm sure that comes into play. Everyone is different, YMMV, not sure I'd take it if my IBD wasn't doing well, higher risk, but for me, right now, works well! FWIW there's also a coupon on the Voltaren/Novartis website

I've used if for both a shoulder and back problem. The pharmacist said the amount that crosses into your system is very minute. I found it works very well on inflammation - Tylenol is great for the pain but does nothing when something is inflamed!

My physiotherapist recommended it originally. I've used it once while flaring and once in remission - did not notice any effect on my UC. I will continue to use it for occasional injuries.
