I know you've used the anti fungal diet to heal your UC and I've just discovered that our home has a mould infestation. My daughter had NO AI symptoms until about a year after we moved in there (starting with environmental allergies). We have tried Chinese medicine, dietary modification, drugs, tons of supplements etc with her. I'm now thinking that it might have been the mould which could have been the trigger. I've read Doug Kaufman's book and I"ve read a lot about candida. I don't necessarily believe the Candida hype because excessive candida would show up in blood/stool (regular and alternative - we have done both) tests and would have been seen in a colonoscopy, which it wasn't. It seems to be the AI boogyman these days. However, I do believe that mycotoxins/alfatoxins might be an issue and mould is clearly dangerous and causes asthma etc.
So, I'd like to further explore this type of treatment - she has been on an "anti candida" diet for several months (stage two as she's a small child) but with limited success. At the time she wasn't on any anti fungals. I was hoping to get some specifics from you and was wondering if you knew of a reliable practitioner who could guide us through this (there are many quacks out there -we've met too many already unfortunately). But, as a quick aside, there are over 400 kinds of fungus harmful to man, known to cause disease...candida may or may not not be the issue. Most routine doctor tests don't identify fungus. Some patients, for instance, have been tested negative for aflatoxin only to come to realize it was the underlying issue in their disease. So, don't discount fungus. The only way to know for sure is to experiment with an antifungal diet and antifungals...the best being diflucan if the doctor will prescribe. Diet alone probably will not make much of a difference if it is more of a serious issue. I'll be in touch.
