Hi all:

So I'm pretty sure I have a UTI eyes   I'll be calling the doc today to be sure.  His usual antibiotic of choice is bactrum (sp?) for UTI. 

Have any of you guys taken this with success without upsetting your UC?  Or is there a better antibiotic for UTI that is gentler?

Yuck, yuck, yuck!  This will be my first go with antibiotics since dx.

Oh, and I've been thinking I've had UTI for a week or so but I've been trying to fight it at home with cranberries and tons of water but it's just getting worse.  So I think I've gotta go to the doc.

LOL! I am not laughing at you but because of the fact that I too have a UTI and I am calling the doc today too! Gotta love those puppies eh??? :( I had a whopper of a UTI a few months ago and since I can't take Bactrim (it has sulfa and I'm allergic to sulfa) I was given Microbid and it worked great with no issue with my Uc at all.

So sorry Amy about the UTI. Hopefully you will get the Bactrim and feel better soon. Hopefully it will not affect the UC....I would think to really keep up w/ the probiotics. I guess these will be one of those experiments to see what happens. Good luck and feel better!

I also have a sulfa allergy...I've been put on levaquin, cipro, and macrobid in the past. I think.

Macrobid seems to work well for me. The last time I was on antibiotics for an ear infection, they gave me Zithromax followed by Bactrim and that initiated the flare I'm dealing with now. Everyone's different though...

Did you see the doc Amy? I got into see the doc too and sure enough I have a UTI so she put me back on Macrobid and Pyridium. I have had soooo many of these horrible things! I am really prone to get UTI's for some reason.

Hi, thanks everyone for your thoughts.  I'm soooo scared of antibiotics now, even though I know I'll have to take them sometimes.

Yes Sherry, I have a UTI as well.  I can just leave specimens at my doc so I don't have to wait for an appt and I told the nurse over and over..."I have UC, I want the 'gentlest' antibiotic I can get if I need one.  If I don't need one, I don't want one.  Please, please tell the doc all this!"  I'm pretty sure she thinks I'm nuts...lol  He called in Macrobid, which from what I'm reading here and other sites seems to work well.  And also tells me that she relayed my message b/c he's always given me bactrim before.

I have to say, it's just so strange, today I feel perfectly fine but my urine smells SO STRONG!  That's my main symptom.  But the doc would not give out antibiotics if the test didn't show UTI so...

So I suppose I'll take it...I'm nervous!  EEEEK!  UC-wise this is the best I've felt since dx and I REALLY don't want to screw it up!
