I called my doctor to ask for a prescription for VSL#3 DS, as suggested by many of the posters here. After spelling the name of the probiotic a few times to the nurse, she promised to call it in. At Walgreens, they gave me 30 pills in a pharmacy bottle (not the original package) marked only as VSL#3. There is no DS. I payed $28 and there is also no mention that my insurance saved me anything. I am wondering if I got the Double Strength or just the regular one. How do you usually receive this probiotic when order through the pharmacy?

That would be the non-prescription strength (if you look at it on the Sigma Tau website you can see the various powders and capsules.)
It took me about 10 months and three or four tries to have it called in correctly.... It's really important they include the "DS" and also that it comes in 20 packets per box"....

I have a mail-order pharmacy for maintenance meds, so I get it shipped next-day air in a styrofoam box with ice packs. My one try through the local pharmacy didn't work - similar to your experience.....

Have you verified that your insurance company will cover VSL#3? Verified the cost under your plan?

You better or you might get a big surprise.

My plan doesn't cover VSL#3DS and calls it a medical food. It costs a lot more than two doses of VSL#3 if you have to pay out of pocket and VSL#3 is very expensive.
