I have had UC since 1998. I had my gallbladder removed about
a year ago due to gallstones after a trip to the ER clued me in. I was in a flare at the time and had just started a course of prednisone when I was told about
the gallstones. I tapered quickly to 10mg/day to have the surgery. Surgery went fine. We had to increase my dosage of pred after the surgery to get the flare back under control - but that was likely due to tapering too quickly. Long and short of it is that the surgery did not cause me to have D everyday. I do still have a little issue with fat absorption, but I had that before the surgery too.
I remember that I watched my diet for about 6 weeks after the surgery and gradually re-introduced fat back into my diet.
I've known people who do not have an IBD who had pancreatitis, D everyday, etc. after gallbladder removal; and alternatively I have UC, was in a flare, and ended up going into remission after the surgery (or as good as it gets, as I call it, which is not exactly "remission").
Tough decision - but I suppose it depends on how often you're having those awful attacks when the stones get lodged. Ouch. My best to you. I hope you're feeling ok.
