Rectal Stricture

My GI doctor is sending me to a surgeon because he found a stricture in my rectum when doing my colonoscopy 2 weeks ago.  Has anyone had a stricture?  What can I expect?

I guess it would depend on the reason for the stricture...did he say it was from inflammation or a result of continued inflammation?

From what I read....they do a dilation to stretch it out if it's not because of a tumour or other reason that's intrusive.

Hope you can get in to the surgeon quickly.

Do lots of research to have questions at the ready.

Did your GI do biopsies on the area? Was he able to complete the c-scope?

The doctor said it was scar tissue from inflammation.  He did a bunch of biopsies during the procedure and all were negative, thank God.  He did mention "stretching" the area, as you said.  I was wondering if anyone here has had this problem and how it went.  Thanks.

Maybe add the word rectal to your title..it might gain you more resposes.

I would suggest you also ask the same question at the CD forum since it could happen in both.

My 90 yr. old mother had rectal cancer. She had laser surgery in St Louis and does not have to wear a bag.The problem is she has scar tissue which restricts bowel movements. Does anyone know what to do for this? I have heard of dilating the rectum, or would she need surgery to remove the tissue?
