Need antibiotics for sinus infection, which kind?

I an convinced my most recent flare started with antibiotics that I had to take for sinus/ear infection in May. Have had sinus surgery a couple years back due to chronic sinusitis, and have ear gromma tubes still. I was put on Zithromax in May, and then Bactrim in June to clear up infection. Have used sinus rinsing twice/day and Mucinex.

My current sinus infection has been present for almost 2 weeks. It's not responding to sinus rinsing and Mucinex anymore. I now have low grade fever and body aches, sinus drainage, coughing, headaches, etc..

I need to go on antibiotics. I would wait but now the fever is present. What kinds are safe? I know to increase probiotics during antibiotic use but wondering which kinds worked for you all without flaring the UC again??? thanks for your suggestions.

I try to avoid ALL antibioics at all costs. They always put me into a flare. I am actually trying to fight a cold right now. Been going on a week and a few days with it...it is just lingering right now and slowing going away..knock on wood

I've been doing the sinus rinsing twice/day (Neti - type) and usually that plus the Mucinex gets it controlled. This time not so lucky, since I have a fever that's creeping up.

Talked to GI dr nurse yesterday afternoon and they put me on Amoxicillin 1000mg twice/daily. I started last night and the belly cramping began within 2 hours. I hope I can do this. Have doubled the probiotics and will keep on with sinus rinsing too. I just hope I won't undo the better state of my colon at this point. I have to take these Abs for 10 days!

24 hours after starting the antibiotics (3 doses later) -- am experiencing cramping, D, gas, rectal pain, frequency, urgency... All the horrible symptoms that I have when flaring except the bleeding. I am supposed to take this Amoxicillin (1000mg BID) for TEN WHOLE DAYS! If it's this bad already, I don't know if I can make it. I have doubled the probiotics.

Prior to this, I had successfully entered remission. Now I'm wondering if all the good will be reversed. Aaaaargh! Do you think I should call the dr back?

Meanwhile the sinus symptoms are improving so I guess it's doing its job there....

Hi, thanks for your advice. I agree, there must still be some inflammation. I am on Lialda but my dr does not believe in rectal meds. I'm using Jarrow probiotics (5 billion strain) twice/daily. I will not quit the antibiotics at this point but will call my dr. Thought I was done with the inflammation as things had calmed down. The inflammation is higher than rectal meds will reach I believe as the pain is worse in the abdomen (had sigmoid colon removed earlier this year). Pain is definitely there on L side too though.
