Tonsil stones anyone??

hi,
last week i discovered i had tonsil stones - gross thing which grows in back of your throat! It came out and within 7 days a new one has popped up in the same place. On searching on internet i found this is also auto immune issue ..though many people say it is food stuck in tonsil cavity. So was wondering are there any others in the forum who have tonsil stones? I dnt know since when i have been having them.... came to know only when i decided to have a look at my throat when i had been feeling some irritation in my throat since a week.

I used to get tonsil stones as a kid. When I got older, like in my later teen years it stopped. Shortly after that I got diagnosed with Uc. They're harmless but they can sure smell and taste something awful! I now have my tonsils out so I don't have to worry about them anymore.

I started getting them about a year and a half ago while on prednisone and remicade and in a wicked flare. I thought maybe it was from the meds. I continue to get them since then and never had them before. I am 50. I think it is gross myself and not fun to get out, always makes me gags. My dentist suggested rinsing at night with salt water. I also read online to avoid dairy as this can promote them.

i get them several times a year since early teens, but i don't have UC so i don't know if my input is really applicable. they've never been more than just a little nusciance, kinda stinky and itchy, and digging them out is sometimes uncomfortable (probably shouldn't do it). much like UC the only known cure is removal of the organ, tonsilectomy. :( rinsing with peroxide might be useful to loosen it up.

Some tonsils are enlarged, making them more likely to trap food particles. Gargling daily with warm salt water can help to dislodge this debris. Salt is a natural disinfectant, besides. Have you mentioned the problem to your internist? It's always helpful for UCers to keep ears, nose, & throat healthy so as to prevent infections like sinusitis and tonsillitis & to avoid the antibiotics used to treat these ailments. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

I've been getting them since I was 12. I believe I get them b/c I had strep throat A LOT as a kid. One of my Dr's said it looked like a war zone on my tonsils. Lots of holes for food to get stuck in. I remember as a kid, a friend of mine would get them as well, we called them "poop balls". Well, b/c they smelled like poop! I only get them 2-3 times a year these days. I have become an expert at using my finger to pop them out. Yeah, this is probably the grossest post I've ever made - and it's not even about real poop! LOL

I was just reading about them on wikipedia and they're sometimes called sneeze-nuggets. LOL gross!
I've never had them but I think that they are pretty common.

Yes, they're common with most everyone who still (unfortunately) has their tonsils.

For me, they started after I had a series of sinus/chest infections and I guess my tonsils went into overload and produced them in full force...I was horrified. I started as a "closet" squeezer/cleaner-outer of my tonsils using q-tips, until I "came out" many years ago on another forum talking about them..lol.

I begged my ENT to take them out, but since I didn't have a tonsil infection it wasn't enough of a reason to have it done...sheesh, now I clean out tonsil snot instead of tonsil poop daily because I can sometimes taste it..ugh.

Normal, but a total PITA.


Someone once asked why I have a small flashlight in by bathroom...I didn't admit it was for poop inspection AND tonsil squeezing...secrets we keep from those who wouldn't understand..
