I have had UC proctitis for almost 3 years now (at least been diagnosed with it, probably have had it much longer).  I got a sigmoioscopy done about a month ago showing no ulcers but still colitis.  I also have grade 2 internal hemmroids.  The past 3 days I have been feeling the urge to go to the bathroom and have nothing but mucus blood clots coming out of me.  Now I have also gone to the bathroom as well.  But when I feel have to go and its not whats suppose to come out its strickly blood clots or mucus mixed with blood.  I have lower abdominal discomfort and crampy.  I am just not sure how normal this is.  The doctor has me taking Lialda once a day since it "got better" as of a month ago and using Rowasa enemas as needed.  I'm not sure if this is something where I should be going to the hospital or what.  Or if it could be the hemmroid.  I'm so confused and scared.

Hi - I'm a little confused; you lowered your dose of Lialda a month ago and now this is happening? Your symptoms sound to me like classic symptoms of a flare. I would call the GI, explain, and ask to go bak up to the 3 Lialda a day - and use those Rowasa enemas every night so you're attacking it from both ends!
In my own experience, I can have pain and cramping kind all over the area when in fact the inflammation is really in one particular (and sometimes small) spot.
The sooner you up the meds, the sooner you'll start to feel better. It took me ages to realize that the sooner I attacked a flare, the better off I'd be.... my 2 cents would be to take action.

Thank you very much. So you have had these mucus blood clots like that then? It just seems so abnormal to me and I still am fairly new to understanding everything about UC I have new things happening to me everyday. What about probiotic vitamins? And do yo have a suggestion of certain foods to eat my doctor never gives me any idea he says whatever I can tolerate.

Yes, the blood/mucus globules.....many times. (O Joy.)

The thing about food, for many of us, is that we each seem to be able to tolerate different things. The best thing might be to keep a food journal - and if you have really bad pain and cramping on Tuesday, look at what you had to eat on Monday - that kind of thing.
When I'm flaring, I need to drop most ideas of "modern healthy diet" and eat few or no salads, raw fruits/veggies, nuts/ scratchy things like corn, gassy foods..... I eat white bread and cooked fruits and veggies. Dairy bothers some; it doesn't bother me. Sometimes tomatoes and tomatoes-sauce things bother me when flaring.
I take fiber in the form of Metamucil because it helps my stools to pass more easily. Some folks find that )or similar, Benefiber, etc) helps.... others don't.
I definitely find that probiotics help me a lot! In addition to the VSL#3DS (double strength, the prescription one) I take some Primadophilus and Ultimate Flora Criitical Care - I take lots of them when I think I'm heading into a alfare, and it's helped me head off the flare, several times in the past year!
My son takes Align. That's not enough probiotic for the dose, for my taste, but... it does help him!
I hope this gives you some ideas!

I think you haven't learned yet how to use your meds effectively.

Definitely start the Rowasa nightly for at least 3 weeks and see how you are then. You might have to continue nightly for a few more weeks. Then taper to every second night for at least 3 weeks....

I think you would need only 2 Lialda at this point..the Rowasa is the necessity since your UC is limited only to the rectum and your symptoms state it as so. You should never have gone lower than 2 anyway.

If you haven't improved then you can up the Lialda...

I wouldn't think you need the hospital...

Definitely start probiotics....and call the doc and ask for a prescription of antispasmodics to help with the cramping. Dicyclomine 10mg is where I started.
