Hi all I was diagnoised in 2000 thought i had gastro but turned out to be colitis.. I feel as if i'm a walking chemist as i take soooo many drugs to try and keep the colitis at bay.
At present i take Mesalazine enemas and also oral treatment of 3g a day
Imuran 200mg day and on steroids of 25mg at present.
I have be in hospital before having steroids through a drip for 10 days every few hours.
I have had so many side effects from the steroids you would not believe.
about 2 and half years ago they wanted to take out my bowel and reattach my small intestine. So i travelled 400k's to have it done and when i got their they told me i was too young and i should go home and waite a little longer.
Well 3 years later a constant life on steroids a stomach ulcer from the steroids along with every other feeling like nausea, fatigue, insomnia, grumpy, yelling, crying, hungry, headaches, black spots ( vision), constipation, blood, mucus, cholestrole etc etc the list goes on I AM SO OVER ALL OF THIS......
I am due to have a colonoscopy on the 13 of october to check for cancer as i have hit the 10 year mark when you need to be checked ALL the time. This will be the tell tale of what will happen I think. If my bowel is in bad condition I think they will send me back for the 400km trip to see the surgen. I am from australia and we are very very luck that we dont have big medical expenses like some of you guy,s. Normally my medication would be $200 - 250 a month and we dont pay much for colonoscopy or surgery.
SO I am lucky that way.
I am trying to read as much as I can about having the large bowel removed so I am well informed when i make up my mind on what to do.
Has anyone had their large bowel removed?
If so What problems do you find since having it?
Are you cured?
Did it cause any other health problems?
