I'm doing well in the rectum now that I've increased my enemas and suppositories for what I estimate will be a couple of weeks.
The question I have is the doc says it's ok to come down from 9 on my Asacol to 6. How much is Asacol helping the rectum where my problem seems to arise? I'd like to go from 9 to 7 asacols and keep up my vigilance with the suppositories and the enemas.
What do you think?

I'd wait a little, if I were you, just to make sure everything is really stable. From where I sit, having taken 16 Asacol per day plus often Rowasa and canasa for 8 years, you're not on that much. Better safe than sorry, I would think, and the rectum takes longer than I ever give it credit for, to really, really heal.....

You could try going down 1 pill every 2 weeks.
My opinion, Asacol does squat for the rectum, but probably helps part of the sigmoid.
You need both.
DO NOT LOWER IT MORE THAN 1 PILL AT A TIME any less than the 2 weeks...remember in the past?

How do you remember my case, Quincy? Do you keep medical files on me?
I'll do what you say.
Does trouble always start in the rectum?

It's interesting that I asked the doc if I could go down by one asacol and he said three so my instinct was to go down by one!!!!

No files, but it was what got you on pred if I'm not mistaken....
My doc suggested one pill per week for me when I upped it to 8 once....
You could try that...and the one I'd suggest you drop is your night one since you do the enemas.
The next week or so, drop the morning one....how often do you take them?

I was on 9 Asacol a day and rectal meds and every time I tried to decrease Asacol I started to see symptoms. I would definitely take it slow. I don't think Asacol does too much for the rectum but for some reason decreasing my dose seemed to send me into a bit of a flare. I wouldn't decrease if you're feeling like you have any symptoms at all.

I was going three in a.m., three in afternoon, three in evening.
I'll shave one of the evening one.
I won't go down if I'm experiencing any symptoms
