I tell everyone. If I get another flare, I might need to work from home, leave the room in the middle of a meeting, etc. I want them to be prepared for that. Plus, there are certain foods I need to avoid. I find it easier to explain why I can't consume foods/beverages high in fructose if they know I have IBD. I tell them out straight that if I do consume foods/beverages high in fructose, my colon might flare and I'll start bleeding again, and I usually bleed a lot. Somehow they understand perfectly why I stay away from certain foods/beverages when I say this. Otherwise, they somehow assume it's only gas or diarrhea or something like that, and they don't get it. After all, people will not have any idea what you are experiencing unless you tell them out straight. They aren't mind readers.
The only thing I don't do is tell anyone on a job interview. Talking about
personal issues is not really appropriate on a job interview, and it can affect my getting an offer for the job.
