Hey, I just joined today so I wanted to say hi. I start having symptoms back in 2006 when I was 14. I went to my family doctor and after a while they finally sent me to a GI specialist. I saw my first GI in the summer of 2007 and had my first scope that August. After getting that scope my doctor told me that there wasn't enough inflammation found to be considered an IBD. My symptoms started to get worse and we kept going back to that doctor and getting told the same thing over and over again. In October 2009, my mom said enough was enough and we went to see a GI specialist at the Cleveland Clinic (it's an hour and a half from my house). The doctor who became my current GI doctor (who is amazing by the way) was surprised to find that my file said active colitis from my previous doctor and that I wasn't being treated for it. After taking that into account and look at my family history (2 grandparents, an aunt, a first cousin, and a brother all with an IBD) they decided to scope me again. They found about 9 inches of inflammation in my lower GI tract and diagnosed me with Ulcerative Proctitis. I was started on Pentasa 3 times a day and I have been feeling pretty good ever since with some flares (due to stress, illness). It seems like a really great forum here and so uh hi again.

Cleveland Clinic is an amazing place. I owe a lot to my doctor and to Cleveland Clinic. I hated to go out in fear of getting sick which made going to school hell for me and I was scared to eating anything because it seemed that everything that I ate made me sick. I got my life back because of them.

Almost the same thing happened to me.  After seeing various GI docs my UC was getting worse and the Asacol which they put me on wasn't doing anything for me.  Eventually I saw another GI doc at a very prestigious medical school, the doc scoped me and said she wasn't even convinced I had UC to begin with.  I eventually had enough and went to an even bigger and even more prestigious and respected hospital and they took one look at my path and biopsy reports and said I had pancolitis with active UC all over the place.  It just wasn't being treated at all or properly.  They put me on the Imuran and on the Canasa and all is well now with almost no inflammation anywhere.  Colon is 95% healed.  I completely know where your coming from.  Got my life back as well.

Yeah she's a great doctor. She really took the time to talk to me and unlike my last doctor actually listened to me. At Cleveland Clinic she's under them as a pediatric GI specialist (I was 17 when I started going to her) but I believe that she treats adults too. Her number and info is up on the Cleveland Clinic website.
