newly diagnosed with UC

Hi everyone!

I was just recently diagnosed with ulcerative colitis about 2 weeks and stumbled across this website while researching this disease. My doctor has started me on Apriso 4 capsules every morning. I was wondering if anyone has had swelling of the feet and ankles? It began for me a couple of days after I started the medication. Not sure if it's a side effect or what? Has anyone had this problem?

I told the nurse when she called to tell me my biopsy results and all she said is "If the swelling starts to cause pain call us back and I will run it by the doctor." Not exactly the answer I wanted. Yes, I am on other medications (I am also a type 1 diabetic). I'm on Lantus, Humalog, and enalapril. I've never had swelling in my life. I'm 29 years old with no other medical conditions besides diabetes.

Yes, I have an indentation when I take off my shoes. It's definitely "pitting edema". I have an appointment with my doctor on the 30th. It will be the first time I will have seen him since my colonoscopy. He told my sister (who was my driver) that I had UC and gave her meds to give to me and I never even got to talk to him about it. I have lots of questions for him.

Hi...I wouldn't wait till your appointment. If you can't get in to see him, at least ask for blood tests for liver and kidney enzymes.

Do you have a GP who can do those tests for you? Do you see a regular doc for your diabetes?

My UC is doing better. I am only having about 1-2 BMs a day now but still with blood (but A LOT less blood). I was having alot of nausea and vomiting before I was diagnosed but I am now feeling much better and am able to eat again. I'm trying to gain back the 11 pounds that I lost. I was naturally thin before but now I'm too thin. I am still having intermittent abdominal pain but not near as bad as before. Am I supposed to be taking fish oil? I see alot of people are on this.
