Just wondering how any of  you make out with jury duty?  I sent in a letter from my doctor and also wrote one myself describing my problem and they denied me. Worrying about it isn't helping this flare.  I hope I can do it.  I hope the person reading my letter doesn't get stricken down with UC.

I tried getting out of mine also boxermom. It did create alot of unneeded anxiety thats for sure. I was definatly lucky because my number was never called to report. I don't think I would make it if I was called.

I was called two weeks ago. I got a note from my PCP and don't have to appear. I also wrote a note to our jury commisioner stating that I would like to be permanently taken off the list. We'll see if that pans out...

I was called years ago and wasn't excused.  When they called me  up to the court and the judge asked if there was anybody that couldn't stay I went up.  I explained and he seemed shocked they didn't excuse me.  He let me go thank goodness. 

I am just not good in the morning and having to be downtown in traffic and into a court house makes me feel sick already.  I will be in the bathroom the entire time.  Real nice juror.  Not fair to person on trial.

I just really can't believe they won't excuse people with serious illness.  Just not fair.  I think I will write a letter also and asked to please be removed.  I wonder what happens if you don't show up?

Interesting.......I have jury duty in a few weeks. I'm not flaring, so... I figured I'd go.

A number of years ago I kept getting called - even several times within a year, so I sent back the form saying I'd serviced within a two year period. Once was when I was 8 1/2 months pregnant with my second son. I sat there all morning..... and when they called me into the judge he said, "WHY are you here?!!! Go home!!!"
lol Very imperfect system. My dad got more summonses to appear after his death than he had in his lifetime.....

My husband has been called about 5 times and served 3. I have only ever been called once but all I had to do was the call this number at a certain time to find out if I had to show up the following morning, luckily I never had to. If you have to go in, take your letter and talk to the judge. If you don't show up, they can hold you in contempt of court and possibly send a warrant out for your arrest.

I really do believe getting called has to do with registering to vote. Ever since I moved states, I haven't been called (it's been years). When I was registered, I would get called often. I know they say it is not related but I can't find another explaination. I know it is terrible that I don't register to vote over the posibility of getting jury duty but that's another story. When I get called for jury duty, I will register.

Hopefully I don't get called any time soon. It is stressful worrying about sitting in a room all day when your ass is not cooperating.

It doesn't surprise me that they will make you show up when called, and then explain your situation in person if you are actually selected. Letters won't work to get you out of it, but you'll likely get excused eventually.

When my husband was called for jury duty, he also just needed to call in the night before each day he was called for, and he never even had to go the courthouse because there were so few jury trials. Sounds like it works differently depending on where you live.

I've never been called (but of course now I will be since I said that). Chances are I would not ever actually serve on a jury since I'm a lawyer. But I was involved in a jury trial once that was expected to (and did) last 8 weeks! When people said they couldn't do it, the judge had no mercy, he would call their bosses and next thing you knew they were in for the duration. We had a lot of alternates in case people couldn't stay with it, but only a couple of jurors had to leave. It was an interesting process!

I've been called twice since having had my colon resection and cancer. Both times I had a doctor write me a letter and the jury board accepted it.

Once I had to explain to a clerk why I wouldn't be a good choice and she said - say no more, I wouldn't want to worry about you being unable to sit in a chair for an entire day (of course you do receive breaks but the restrooms are public and not large enough so you can use one w/o a line. Besides I'd be stressing out if I needed to use the bathroom longer than the allotted break time.

I personally believe that anyone with bowel issues should be excused.
