Doesn't Lialda have asprin in it? I thought you're suppose to stop asprin a week before surgery, but they said it's ok to take. Is this correct? I just want to be reassured. Thanks

I think you'll be fine. My understanding is that it's basically the active ingredient of aspirin (the "salicyc" part) but it's not exactly aspirin.

I was able to continue my Asacol until the day of my hip replacement, and that's big-time major surgery. (And I'm here to talk about it.....lol!) I had no bleeding issues.

It's great! Right now I seem to have pulled a muscle in that leg, and when something like that happens I freak out! - but in general life is SO much better now that I can walk well!

I'll be thinking of you with your procedure.

When I was on Asacol I had my tonsils and adnoids taken out in 2000. They said mesalamines are fine to take until the day before surgery in which after midnight you are not supposed to eat/drink/take meds due to the anesthesia unless it's for blood pressure or acid reflux - which you take the day of surgery.
