My lips burn

I'm not sure why I am having this problem, but for the last 3 weeks my lips have been burning.  I even get cracks on both sides of my mouth.

Just putting my finger on my lips make it hurt. They also peel and it looks like I used a lip pencil to trace my lips.  I don't think it is chapped lips

as they burn with anything I put on.  I have tried Chapstick, Vaseline, Aquafor, Bert's Bee lipbalm, and Lip Therapy by Vaseline. 

Nothing helps...has anyone had this?  Here is the medication I take (I am wondering if it is medicine related?):

18 pills of Colazal a day (750 mg each)

2 pills of 6MP (50 mg each)

2 amitriptyline (25 mg each)

1 Canasa (1000 mg)

4 Fibercon tablets

I don't know if I should call my regular doctor or my Gasto doctor.

It could be the 6mp. I started having somewhat of the same issue after I started it. My lips always seem to be chapped and they slightly burn when I put stuff on them. I have used a lot of things too but the one that I find to be the most effective is Carmex.

I have the same issue.  I went to the Dermatologist and was told it was a fungus.  She gave me a combination of Topicort and Protopic samples.  I used the Topicort for three days, twice per day and then I use Protopic every morning.  It has stopped the cracks at the corner and my lips only start burning when I haven't used the daily protopic for a few days. 

Not sure why my signature only shows up sometimes.... it's all in my signature...

Qunicy - I have been on 6MP for 5 years, no new toothpastes or face wash or anything that I haven't used for awhile, not sure why 18 Colazal other than it is what has worked. I definitely don't like taking all the pills, so you think I should switch to something rectally to get the amount I need???? I have tried to lower my dosage several times but I end up having to go back to 18. I have also tried neosporin around my mouth and in the corners but that didn't help either. UGH! I am so frustrated with this!

You know, looking at your signature, I find it odd that you're on colazal when you have pancolitis, as colazal doesn't treat the entire colon. If you'd really like to take fewer pills a day, you could consider asking your doctor about Apriso or Lialda. I do understand not wanting to rock the boat if you're in a pretty good remission.

I'd call your regular doc, as it doesn't seem to be an issue with your UC meds, since you've been on them all for years. Or, if your insurance doesn't require that you get a referral to see a specialist, you might see if you can get into a dermatologist quickly.

What works for my dry, itchy lips is Lansinoh cream (pure lanolin) and 1% hydrocortisone ointment, mixed together in the palm of my hand. You must be sure to get hydrocortisone ointment, not cream because the ointment contains only hydrocortisone and petrolatum. Avoiding irritants on the lips is very important -- the reason products like Blistex sting when applied is that they contain ingredients like menthol and camphor which are the worst things possible for skin.
