I believe that if you have constant inflammation, even low-grade, you are at increased risk for colon cancer, compared to a UCer who does experience complete remission.

Have you tried mesalamine enemas? They might be the key to get you in complete remission.

Honestly, even if you are in complete remission by the 15th, I'd still request the enemas. Studies show that people who use them (twice weekly as a maintenance dose) in addition to oral meds stay in remission longer than those who only use oral meds. That's enough evidence for me to stay on them twice weekly for forever, quite honestly. I've been in remission for over a year and a half now with NO symptoms. Sure, I get loose poops every now and then when I eat a LOT of fruit, beans, etc, but that was my norm pre-UC, and I think the norm for anyone.

I use them on Sunday and Thursday nights. I figure it doesn't have to be exactly equally spaced and wanted to use them the same two nights each week so that I remember. However, if I'm traveling for work, and it's a quick trip (ie, just a couple of nights), I'll switch the schedule so I don't have to take them with me. Like if I'll be gone Wed and Thurs nights, I'll just use it when I get back home on Friday. Or if I have to catch an early flight on Mon morning, I'll move the Sun night one to Sat, since the enemas sometimes cause a loose poop after my AM coffee, especially if the AM coffee is on an empty stomach, which it is when I'm booking it to the airport!

However, one of the studies that I read had patients do it on Saturday and Sunday nights, I guess b/c they thought there might be higher compliance that way (maybe for people who travel a LOT for work?) and it seemed to work just as well as the one where they spaced them out more equally.
