sorry guys not a nice story at all, im on my 8th month of a flaire up, still bleeding, still going to the loo at the worst 9 times throu the nite, and up to 25 times in the day, im on 4 asacol a day, im also on azathiaprin 3 a day increasing to 5 a day,. my bm's are now so smelly , whats that all about? does this mean im comming throu it? or im getting in more trouble? what does it mean?

Have you talked to your doctor at all? It sounds like you may need to think about a course of prednisone to help you achieve remission, or perhaps it's time to think about a different medication or surgery. Or maybe rectal meds would help you. How long have you been on aza?

Are you taking AsacolHD or regular 400mg tablets? 4 400mg isn't a lot. Have you tried other 5ASA meds? Are you taking probiotics?

I think smelly is a bad sign, the smellier, the sicker I am. Just my experience. Other people may have a different experience.

Have you been tested for C-Diff ?  The smell is suppose to be wretched and very distinctive. 

Just a thought but maybe you should have your stools checked for it.

ty all,. since sept ive been on azathiaprin, start on a day but too much for me showing on my blood tests, im now behind, came off them for 3 weeks, now creeping up and on 3 a day, i am also on asacol 800mg 4 a day, with me prednisalone it desnt touch me at all, i was on it for 11 weeks and didnt touch me!

I'm currently suffering from Proctitis, following C-Diff infection in Oct. In response to MOMUC19, C-Diff could be a possibility as I can attest to the "smelly" part. My symptoms were loss of appetite and 15-20 stools per day and lower abdominal pain. After 5 days of not eating, finally saw my doctor and was immediately admitted to hospital for 5 days with severe dehydration. One of the questions he asked me was "does it smell like C-Diff"? I had C-Diff 15 years ago following hysterectomy but I didn't remember all the details. However, this was a much more severe case and I don't think I'll forget that "smell".
