Sound like crohns?

well what does "colitis and active chronic proctitis" mean? If you have, say, inactive pancolitis and active proctitis then maybe the inactive illietis could be "backwash ilietis" which some pan UCers get. Otherwise, it is probably crohn's but did your doc not go over the results with you in person? I'd speak to them asap!

The report says: "ileal mucosa with features consistent with mild chronic inactive ilieitis." All the other biopsies showed the same with the exception of the active proctitis. Than the biopsy from the rectum said "fragments of adenomatous epithelium with tubulovillous architecture." Looked up adenomas and they are benign tumors basically. The report suggested taking biopsies adjacent to this to exclude flat dysplasia. Don't really want to go in for another scope. The report was given to my doc on the 24th so I guess if he found it important he would've called. Otherwise I was told that the results would be mailed to me in two weeks. I'm a nurse at the hospital so I have access to the results hence getting them sooner.

ileitis would lean to CD, not UC...and the term chronic but quiet is good for you.

What meds are you on again?

And I guess you're on rectal meds for sure.

Is all between clear?

There is a form of UC that's cecum and rectum....but not ileum. If you've had pancolitis in the past and have healed, it's possible it would be UC, especially since it's quiescent but showing chronic inflammation.

The meds are the same and obviously something is working with the ileum healed, that's GREAT news!!

REgarding you having another scope...if it's just the rectum that had the fragments of adenomatous epithelium with tubulovillous architecture, I don't think you have a choice except to have more biopsies done maybe within whatever time frame your doc suggests. I would think that you would have had them checked for dysplasia anyway?

While they are benign, they are suspected to be precursers to cancer...all you'd need is a sig-scope.

REgarding the biopsies report...isn't that the one that you have already? I'm not clear what you mean about your doc not calling, etc.

I was diagnosed in 2007 originally with crohns. I then got pregnant a few months later and I quit seeing my GI dr because everytime I went in they did nothing and I hated driving 45 min to get there and having to pay a copay for nothing. Anyways after I had my 2nd child I went back but requested a new GI. He did a scope and said you don't have crohns you have severe proctitis ...this was in march of 2009. So I didn't have any more full scopes done but had 3 sigs done inbetween march of 09 til Nov 2010. I had another baby this past august and sure enough I flared after having her. He decided to do a colonoscopy. It showed I had active ileitis w/ulcers and proctitis. So now he is calling it indeterminate colitis. I like my dr a whole lot but makes me wonder why 1st dr said crohns ...current dr said no crohns and now hes saying indeterminate colitis.

My GI was not sure if I have UC or Crohn’s colitis and he did not care: “Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis are both considered IBD and the medications are the same for both”. From what I can tell I don’t think the medical establishment has a clue about this disease. The logic appears to be “If no inflammation then it is IBS, otherwise it is IBD. If it spreads to the small intestine then it is Crohn’s instead of UC.”

This makes no sense to me. Some of us are helped with antibiotics, others are made worse with them. Maybe that is a subtle clue that the inflammation of UC has many causes. Mold and candida seem to affect some Ucers. I suspect that most of the benefits of the gluten-free SCD diet occur to those who are gluten intolerant in the first place but have been diagnosed with UC because “their scope indicated inflammation”.

Maybe if doctors had a clue about the etiology of this disease then maybe they can prescribe a regimen that actually may work. Perhaps we will then know why diet works for some and not others and what will work for the rest of us. That is license to continue prescribing toxic big pharma drugs to those whose only problem is that they are gluten intolerant. And not to look at possible mold, yeast, food allergy, and bacterial infection as possible causes. I am one of the lucky ones because I accidentally found out that antibiotics can work to place me into remission.
