Hi All,
My husband had his take down surgery yesterday for his j-pouch, and he seemed to be doing relatively well, all things
considered! He was even up walking around last night, already going to the bathroom. However, he is having an issue
and it's not with his pouch. He CANNOT urinate! They ended up having to put in a catheter (keep in mind my
husband is only 27) to help him relieve himself. He tried and tried and tried, but just couldn't go. At first they straight
cath him and that worked, then as of last night he started going. However, he wasn't empyting all of the way. So this morning
after a good sleep, he couldn't go again, and then the nurse couldn't get the straight cath in, so he had to wait for another
nurse to come on shift, and by the time she got there, and finally got one in him, he had over 900 CC of fluid in his bladder
to relieve. Needless to say, I was angry, but more importantly I don't understand why he can't urinate. His prostate is enlared
they said, and have put him on flomax to help things move along. I feel awful for him, and I wish there was something I could do to make it
better for him. Is this normal after the takedown surgery? Did anyone else have this problem? After his 1st surgery he had some trouble urinating after they removed
the catheter, but finally went. Although, he said it's never been the same since then. So I'm not sure what's going on, but hopefully they'll figure it out soon.
He does have the dreaded butt burn, but i took him his own tp, and I'm going to pick up some Calmoseptine for him to use.
He's still on a liquid diet of course, so things are just going straight through; however, he did hold it for about an hour and half today since he's on a FULL
liquid diet instead of just a clear one. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!! :)
