All-
Had my follow-up the other day and got myself a prescript
ion for VSL#3 DS. The pharmacy (CVS) had to order it; when I picked it up the next day, it wasn't under refrigeration. They weren't sure if it came that way when it was delivered, and they weren't sure if it came straight from the manufacturer or a warehouse. My coverage is through Caremark (which owns CVS) so my next step is to call and find out where it came from, and if it was warehoused, was it kept under refrigeration. Not so worried if it didn't ship that way, as it can go 7 days at room temp, but am worried how it may have been stored for an extended period of time.
Anyone with experience here? Specifically, I got a 3 month supply of 2/day so 9 boxes of 20 (ordering 90 days at a time gets me a great discount :))

I had ordered mine thru CVS too and was told that it was refridgerated. When I picked it up they did take it from the fridge.
Do you mind sharing how much your 3 month supply was with insurance?
Thank you

If you are willing to make a batch of homemade yogurt you can test the viability of any probiotic. If it turns out runny you know it's no good.
At this time of year I think most probiotics would be OK. The summer heat maybe not so much (I live in hot Florida).

$50 for the 90-day supply. It was considered a 90-day "mail-order" maintenance vs. short-term prescript
ion (had the doctor write a 90-day instead of 30-day with refills) but since it was CVS they let me just pick up "mail orders" in person.
I actually just realized they shorted me- gave me 6 boxes instead of 9 so headed back over there in a bit :)

Ima- just now searching the boards and found that same thing- going to look for a recipe for it and give it a shot (if you had a recipe handy, in fact, I'd love it :))- I'm not worried about
the transportation and storage in the pharmacy; I'm more worried if it sat in a room-temperature warehouse for 6 months beforehand (or are you saying room temp for that long might not be so bad?).

I caught them doing that and I told them forget it - you can keep it. I am quite certain that at least one month out of the year I get 3 boxes of DS with failed chain of custody. Burning thru a pile of that now, eager to get onto the next batch.
I throw in florastor a few days a week each month too. I dont trust anything else I have tried.

Had a nice long chat with the pharmacist, he said "if it comes to us on ice, or the packing box says to refrigerate, they will at the pharmacy until pickup." So who knows. They were able to tell me they order from McKesson; I don't think I'll get far trying to figure out their operations (maybe I'll call VSL for the heck of it to see if they track that sort of thing).

I talked to the company and the customer service person said it's fine at room temperature for up to 1 week.
