What does mucus look like

Does mucous look like the stuff that runs from your nose except colored light brown?

Yep, basically looks like snot but it can be white, clear, brown or red.

Oh, great. Looks wonderful in my underpants.

What would a taper be without it? :-)

Also, I had a little blood last night. It came off the very end of one firm stool of many. There was some irritation so I'm hoping for a fissure or hemmie.

Instead of panic, my attitude has mollified to here we go again. That's progress!

When I have seen mucous it could be whitish, clearish, brownish, or pinkish. 

Kinda, well, mucousy texture, soft and slimy looking, little clumpy bits or long stringy bits. 

I spend way more time looking in the toilet than I ever have before...

Yes, I LOVE farting mucus in my undies. While flaring mine looked like snot out of your nose, really slimy and whitish.
In remission when I have a like mucus on the tp from IBS it's brown.

I read that for mucus the only colour you have to be concerned about is White mucus... not sure if that is true though.

I am not sure haha. I remember vaguely reading it somewhere. Apparently everyone's poo has mucus and it is needed to move the stuff through your body. It's only when the mucus turns white (which is a strong indicator of UC or UP) that that there is something wrong. I'll search for the website that I read this information on and post back when (and if) I find it :).

I have never read that about white mucus, but it has definitely been my experience. When going into remission the first time, I started seeing clear mucus and was scared I was going into another flare or wasn't doing as well as I thought. Well things still went great for six months and as I started my second (mini) flare, I noticed a pure white mucus in a small amt and a small amt of a black liquid. I thought this was blood, but my GI said it occurs when the (can't remember the word) starts breaking down in the rectum due to the inflammation.

Anyway, now that I'm doing better (clean flex sig on 11-22) I'm seeing strings of clear mucus. A normal person not concerned with the stool probably wouldn't notice, but they are there around the stool. The harder the stool, more likely to see it. Considering that, it may not be that it comes and goes with the flare, but maybe seems to because as I start tapering Rowasa, the next day's stool is usually very hard in the morning and that's when I usually see the clear mucus.
