While I don't have ulcerative colitis, I wanted to share my experience with moviprep, which I had to take for a routine colonoscopy. All the posts I read here really helped me to get through the prep "ordeal." I had my colonoscopy late this morning, and it was a breeze--I was out cold and the news was good except for it showed I have diverticulosis, which is common for my age of 64. The day before my "fast day" I ate a very light diet, and then yesterday I had fluids only--beef broth, iced tea, orange and lime jello, Coke, and coffee. I followed the directions for the moviprep and started with my first 8 ounces at 6pm last night. At first it wasn't so bad, but the taste was not pleasant as my "drinking session" continued. I used a straw, drank as quickly as I could, took deep cleansing breaths between drinks, focused my mind on pleasant things, and then popped gum into my mouth as soon as I drank all four of the 8 ounce doses. It took me over an hour to get the stuff down, but it did not taste as bad as I thought it would. Was very much like a very strong lime green lollipop laced with lots of salt. Within an hour of taking the stuff the party started and I spent about
two hours in the bathroom. I am happy to say I had very little bloating, and no cramping or nausea, and was able to sleep for seven hours. At six-thirty this morning I drank the remaining liter in 8 ounce doses, and spent another two hours in the bathroom before leaving for the endoscopy center. All the liver bile that you pass will cause your "butt" to be very, very sore so I recommend using wipes instead of toliet paper, and have a tube of Boudreaux's Butt Paste handy to used between movements. What burns your butt is the bile you are passing after drinking the second liter of the moviprep. Also, rinsing off with a squirt bottle of cool water helps. I think everyone who has posted here is very brave, and I wish all of you the very best. Thanks for all the great suggestions!
