Hello everyone, Ill probably get diagnosed with UC tomorrow and i'm not planning to stay on meds, getting my colon removed
for those who removed it or for those who possess information about this
I have several questions
After ilisteomy, will I be able to eat everything?
Can I eat spicy food?
How many times will I have bowel movemet?
When can I start eating spicy stuff after ileostomy and most importantly
IS THE SURGERY DANGEROUS? thank you

yes you can eat everything, you just have to chew well, and drink more water.
yes you can eat spicy foods
with an ileo you constantly have stool coming out but you only need to empty 4-6 a day, it will be more at first
i would wait a few weeks before eating spicy foods, you need to be on a bland diet, with easy to digest foods for the first few weeks to allow your stomach to readjust, but after that, you can eat whatever. I even tried the braveheart wings, the ones with the atomic bomb next to them, lol

and yes the surgery is dangerous, all surgery is dangerous, going in for having a tooth removed is dangerous. And they will tell you lots of scary things, but they have to do that to cover their butts, the chances of something happening are very low though.
and to me it was worth the risk to have my life back!
and i wish i had gotten my colon removed the minute i saw blood instead of wasting all that time!

If you have mild UC maybe you should try some meds before going the surgery route. This would allow you time to research more.  (BUT not prednisone, remicade or others with bad side effects.)

I wish I'd had the surgery years ago, just had it 7 weeks ago, have a temporary iliosyomy and am having surgery next week to connect all to the J-Pouch they fashioned out of my small intestines ao I will still be able to pass stools through the rectum.  So with surgery you don't necessarily have a permanent "bag".

     There are risks with every surgery.  However, my question to you is:  Why would you be thinking of surgery before you are even diagnosed with UC?

I agree that surgery shouldn't be your choice at this point. It's very likely that you will gain remission with medication and might not flare again for several years. You should spend time on this board and researching to better understand the condition. Surgery has been great but it's not perfect. It was a sacrifice I was willing to take but only when it was determined that meds no longer worked.
