Trying again. Newly Pregnant and flaring.

i was just diagnosed this pregnancy and have only been using Rowasa. Both my GI and OB said they are safe.

Quincy-  I was on the Rowasa but only twice a week and Canasa supp off and on.  Since this just got drastically worse I jumped back on the Rowasa every night.  I have been having a really hard time keeping it in also.

I am currently on weekly Humira injections, 12 asacol, Bentyl and Immodium.  If I have to get on the Prednisone I am waiting until after I am twelve weeks.  I dread the thought of them again.

I am hoping that after these first couple of weeks it will slow down.  My nerves are terrible about this because of what happened last time which isn't helping the situation. 

I don't mean any offense, just curiosity because I don't understand. Why did you get pregnant again?

Is it possible you have the hemmies back? that in itself can exacerbate a flare...butt bullets might be needed again?

I was diagnosed during my pregnancy and my husband and I have been discussing the possiblity of having another baby, but I am nervous to be flared again for the duration of it and there after. I have done some research and I highly recommend probiotics at both ends to help ease your symptoms. They are suppose to be safe for baby and i'm not so sure about all those other drugs especially Predisone! It made me feel horrible during my pregnancy and I refuse to take it again. I like VSL#3

I wonder if you could have a C-section and get your colon removed all in the same appointment =p Not that that'd be any fun lol

Good luck! I hope it all comes out right. I'd look at some natural stuff too while you're at it. Make sure they're safe first, but I'd definitely try. I'm sure there's tons of stuff. Rowasa and Asacol is safe, maybe Pred's not the best but I think it's alright. You should read that article in the sticky thread.

On a side note, try to avoid an epidural when having your baby if you can, as the complications to the spinal nerves are VERY under-reported. Ever wonder why so many women have no back pain until they have a baby; it's not the delivery but the epidural. Google the Burton report for more info on epidurals and their dangers. Hope you feel better soon.

sorry to hear you're suffering, hope it gets resolved quickly for you.
Not sure if you've already tried this but if your hemmies are external try sitting on an ice pack. I make my own using a vacuum sealer so I can make them pretty narrow and they just fit right up there :-p
Anyway, I tried everything on hemmies and ice is the only thing that works for mine.

and fwiw, I was reading up on bentyl the other day and I know you can't take it while breastfeeding but not sure about pregnancy... I would call the dr. or pharmacist first.

Missey-  I am glad to know there is somebody else on this board pregnant at the same time.  I had a very hard time back in June with my first pregnancy and it didn't end very well.  This is my second time trying and I am very scared.  I can't really believe now that I am actually trying again.  The fear is paralyzing.  I am doing the enemas every night.  I have been keeping them in for the most part but losing a little. Last night I tried the half and made out better.  I hope they kick in soon.  It seems like it is just the morning/early afternoons that are bad.  At night I feel pretty good UC wise.

Congrats on the pregnancy! I hope things go smoothly for you and try not to think about the what if's or you will drive yourself nuts.

I was on both Rowasa and Asacol while pregnant with my daughter. I triple checked with the OB, my GI and a nurse at the makers of Asacol to be sure it was safe and they all assured me it would be fine and they were right. I flared for the first trimester but after that, it was like a switch was thrown and I was flare free until about 6 months after I had her.

Regarding what Bbc said about the epidural....I sort of agree. I had back pain before the epidural but afterwards it seemed a lot worse. The anesthesiologist had a hard time inserting it and I think he may of done a little bit of damage. But honestly, it made delivery ohhh so much nicer! :) I went pretty much natural with my son so when I was pregnant with my daughter, I vowed to not go thru that again.

Congrats! I just had my son (August 19th) and I flared on and off through the pregnancy but the first trimester was the worst. The second and third were much better with only a mild flare. I actually ended up in the ER one night due to the flare in the first trimester.

Rowasa was a God-send to me during the first 16 weeks or so - it really helped and the ER doctor, my GI and my OB all approved it as safe. I was also on Lialda almost the whole time. I used procto-foam on and off as well which helps with hemmis and UC both. My son was born two weeks early (not due to UC) and weighed just a little over 8 lbs - healthy, strong and BIG. He now is almost 5 months old and has not been sick once. He is very healthy and happy. I did only breastfeed for 6 weeks (and never breastfed exclusively) because I started Imuran and did not want to breastfeed while on it.

My GI and OB kept in contact during my pregnancy and I saw my GI every 2-3 months. While I was pregnant, my GI and I developed a good plan for getting me on Imuran and hitting my UC hard after delivery because I had a BAD flare after my first child was born. In fact that was when I discovered I had UC. I am MORE than happy to answer any questions or just to be an on-line support to you since I went through this so recently. Please feel free to e-mail me. Any thoughts on probiotics during pregnancy?? The last time the OB said no but I thought they were safe.
