I saw a new dermatologist last week for a small rash around my perineum and it was dxd as yeast, the md said it is common for ucers to develop yeast and that my gi could give something to sterilize my gi tract to kill/prevent it. He gave me an anti fungal cream which cleared it up quickly but I'd not heard if the yeast/uc connection previously, anyone here?

I still get thrush on my tongue whenever I take an antibiotic. Have you been on any antibiotic therapy lately?

Common for an inflamed anus to develop yeast infection, especially if the tissue is already compromised.
I can't see how an entire digestive tract can get sterilised, however. He's talking about
an oral ingested antifungal.
Regarding common for UCers...that could be pred-related UCers.

I have had problems with yeast, related to UC before...more recently I had to take Nystatin to control it since nothing else was working.

Not sure if this is related but I seem to get yeast overgrowth since being on 6mp and having a lowered immune system. I seem to be able to control it with food, by avoiding breads and sugars when I feel the yeast is getting to be a problem. I did have to take diflucan a few months ago after taking antibiotics, maybe i've never regained the correct balance since.

I've had some sort of yeast/fungal infection on-and-off in my buttcrack of all places. Doctors never mentioned that it was connected to UC. The anti-fungal cream cleared it in a couple of days. I have read that those on immunosuppressants are more susceptible to yeast infections.
I'm working on cutting down my sugar intake and switching to wheat products (instead of white)

Thanks for the responses.
Great, more fun side effects from our UC; going tip have an in-depth discussion with my GI next time I see him.
Ive had this on and off over the last few years and always thought it was from a wet bathing suit, sitting on a heating pad or perhaps some residue from all the rectal meds etc. The derma told me not to use cornstarch powders as cornstarch can help influence the production of yeast. He also said stay away from most wipes.

I don't believe it's a side effect from UC...many yeast infections can be controlled or prevented by just becoming aware.
Yeast is on our skin anyway....and in our colons. Overabundance usually has a cause..that's the trick to find the reason why and how to prevent it or to treat and control it.
Remember too that it can be passed along via towels and personal contact.

My gastro recommends cleaning the nether region with Tuck's medicated pads after bms to prevent fungus growth there. That's about
the easiest preventative to use when you're out and about
and away from the home bathroom. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
