This morning I woke up not feeling too great. Then they looked at my bag and there was a bunch of blood. They took off my appliance and put some dressing over it to stop the blood. I stood up and blood went everywhere. I got dizzy and laid down. It reminded me of that scene from Carrie. Sorry, I know that's gross. I was freaked out. Anyway they took me to the procedure room and worked on me and later in the day concluded that it was old blood coming through. So happy I hadn't gone home yet. Feeling much better and think I may get to go home tomorrow.
They took out the foley and I peed three times on my own and my output is starting to thicken. All great signs. I even emptied my bag a couple times and it went fine. Knock on wood, but I think all will be okay.

I am sorry you had such a bad morning. I've never seen Carrie so I don't know what scene you're talking about
but it sounds scary and I am a wimp.
I hope things continue to improve for you. Are you going home soon? Must be exciting to know the UC is gone and that you can get on with your life without worrying about
flare ups and the effects of all these medications.

Wow, that would freak me out too. Glad you are doing better. Hope you get to leave soon. There's no place like home!

What a scare for you! I am glad to hear that it was nothing serious/a complication. Good thing that they hadn't released you yet - that would have been extra hassle. I hope that you are able to go home tomorrow and continue your recovery where you will be most comfortable. Make sure to keep us updated.

I am so glad that you had not gone home. It would be have been even scarier. Thank goodness it was nothing serious. Here's looking toward a straight forward recovery from now on!

That is scary. I had two scary episodes while still in the hospital. The first time was three days following surgery. The resident told me I could eat....so I did...lol. Big mistake. I threw up like you wouldn't believe...then down went the ng tube again. My surgeon was livid...bet he read the riot act to that resident. He also told me not to listen to ANYONE but to my own body. Seems like the resident was trying to clear out as many patients as possible before the 4th of July weekend when she would be on duty...lazy a**. Next episode came about
five days later.. fever of 105, BP of 70/40 and heart rate of 152. This was discovered by the night tech taking vitals. Never saw people work around a patient so fast...blood cultures, xrays, ct scan....ugh. All I wanted to do was sleep! They never did find out what caused it because the next morning I was fine....lol. They did hook me up to IV antibiotics...maybe some kind of infection. Anyway, total hospital stay lasted 11 days.

wow that is very scary!
but so you know for the future, it wont be as bad, but stomas can bleed a lot for no apparent reason, so be prepared for that, and also something noone told me, red foods, or purple or orange foods, can cause output that looks exactly like blood. the first time i ate red velvet cake i thought i was dying.
but that doesnt come with dizziness and bad feelings, so if you have those def get it checked out!

Christine, that sounds awful. I am finally at the point where I am happy I got the surgery done. Dr. Hull gave me my pathology report and it still said I had mild inflammation, so even though I felt pretty good I still wasn't completely in remission even with the 6mp.
This morning I had a lot of blood clots come out of my rear. I wasn't as scared as yesterday, and thought, huh, I thought this wasn't hooked up. They explained that like any sore it will ooze and that the rectum produces mucus so the old stuff that was coming through my stoma was now coming out the other end. It is less now.
The good news...I am being discharged today!!! She wants me to stay at the hotel tonight, then I can drive home tomorrow. Praying for no more problems. I feel really good. So far, I would recommend this surgery. My surgeon is WONDERFUL and so is her staff. Cleveland Clinic has surpassed my expectations.
Now I have to have my drain taken out (very painful they said) and one last stoma lesson and I'm outta here!

Yowza, that would have scared the heck out of me. Glad to hear it wasn't anything serious.
I had two major set backs after my surgery. The first one was seven days into my hospital stay when my steroid levels crashed which caused insane nausea and vomiting which of course was super painful with the incisions. The second time I was feeling kinda cruddy the morning after they removed my JP drainage tubes but had an appointment with my GI that day anyway so I figured I go tell him about
it. By the time I got there my fever was 103 and my heart rate was around 150 so it was off to the ER with me. A couple CT scans, an ultrasound, and a huge amount of antibiotics later I was back on feet. I'm feeling great now and so glad I did the surgery.
Hopefully you've got all your complications behind you! Good luck with the rest of your recovery, and enjoy not being in the hospital.

It's most enlightening when those who have had surgery come here to let us know how it's going, good and bad and in between.
Scary to hear, but it's better to know from my perspective. I appreciate the posts.
Disneynut..happy you're on your way home tomorrow!
Keep us posted please.
