had another colonoscopy today. the sessile lesion that they wanted to take out this time was 15mm. doc said it could represent a sessile adenoma vs a DALM lesion. he said that the likelihood of a sporadic adenoma in a 29 y/o with no family history of cancer/polyps is low. again, he said that a colectomy made be required if the biopsies taken around the resected adenoma site turn out positive for cellular changes. i thought that polyps in those with UC are actually common and not low like he said? like i said before i'd rather not have my colon taken out obviously but he said it's a possibility. hard to imagine that coming just from a polyp removal......

I had an adenoma when I was about.... 32 or 33. It freaked out my GI. He conferred with a lot of colleagues, and we agreed that the way to proceed was for me to have another colonoscopy in 3 months, with a whole lot of biopsies...
I was lucky, there was no evidence of cell changes, but I've had the scopings annually since. That doc always did more than the usual number of biopsies just in case - like 55 - but nothing more had shown up in these 20+ years. (So far, lol.)

do you remember what your first adenoma turned out to be? i.e. tubulovillous etc?

i had a nightmare last night that all my biopsies returned dysplastic!   :(

Nightmare as in a dream? Only makes sense considering what you're dealing with at this point.

When do you get the results of your biopsies?

I'd probably be majorly flaring at this point with worry...

Pseudopolyps can happen with UC, but don't know if they're actually common.

well it was a tubulovillous adenoma when i had my last c-scope but doc didn't take it out because he thought it was an inflammatory polyp. took a bunch of biopsies throughout the colon. i just don't like that he keeps recommending a consult for a colectomy. i work at the hospital so am constantly checking if my results have come back. so far not yet. arrgghhh!

shouldn't the doc be optimistic and say, "hey, if the path results show that we got it all out than we can breathe easy and you'll just have to come by regularly so we can do some follow up biopsies" rather than, "hey, if any of the biopsies show changes we're gonna have to get that colon out." docs are so quick to yank organs out!

Well, he should prepare you I guess.
Once my doc said with the reading of the results.."Well, no cancer...that means no surgery...that's good." It was sobering in that moment in time.
