Pregnant and taking Humira

Hi,

Haven't been on for a while as I've been doing really well on the Humria, Not very good of me I know but sure I suppose most of us a bit like that.

Well as the title says, I am now pregnant, and have been up until two weeks ago taking my injections as normal. I was due to take it last Wed, but as I had a feeling I was pregnant. Well in case you haven't guess, this was not a planned pregnancy, and I am quiet worried about the effects of the Humria on the baby. I am only in the very early stages and still waiting for my Gyn to come back to me about whether or not to continue on the humria and asacolon.
So I am just wondering if anyone out there has been in a simular situation and if so how did it go for you.
Does anyone know what side effect can be caused by the humria?

I was pregnant last June and on Humira. I was told by several docs it was ok.  My GI told me he wouldn't take it because not enough is known.  I ended up miscarrying at 17wks.  I am currently almost 6wks pregnant again and flaring.  I am chosing not to take the Humira this time.  It never had me in remission so it is not like it was working.  They say the benefits to the mother are greater than the risks to the baby.  It is a class B in pregnancy.  I guess it is going to be your decision.  Good luck with the pregnancy.

Guess our situations have been alike all the way along, if I remember correctly we were diagnosed around the same time, July 2009, and our treatment was the same up to the humira, which worked great for me.

I don't know what to do really. I have been in great form and have not flared since around March to April last year when the Humira started to kick in.

I know they say there are little or no risk to the baby during pregnancy, but I would still feel strange about injecting if I'm not too bad. Guess I'll have to wait and see what the Gyny says

I've taken Humira while pregnant, but my pregnancies haven't stayed, but I've been told to continue to take my humira.

I had many conversations with my GI prior to conceiving and he told me that the data shows that Humira does not increase your chances of miscarriage or there being something wrong with your baby any more than the general population. He said it was important for me to be healthy and if that means being on Humira while pregnant, then that's what I had to do. 

I hate that I'm taking these drugs (also on Imuran) while pregnant. But I flared so badly with my first pregnancy that I was thisclose to losing the baby due to malnutrition (not the drugs). So this time, I'm doing everything I can to stay healthy/symptom-free.

Well spoke to the doc yesterday and since I am in remission at moment, albeit with the use of Humria, he has said I should try to go without it for the moment and continue to take the asacol. He said there is not enough research into Humria to say either way if there are any bad effect to take the risk. I suppose it depends on your situation, obviously if you are not well then there is a higher chance of miscarriage.
I guess I will just have to play it by ear and see how things go and hope I am one of the 1/3 of the people who's symptoms get better while pregnant.
Will keep you inform on how I go

IMAC...

I am one of those people that does not flare during pregnancy. Besides high bp in my last pregnancy I had absoluetly no issues having to do with UC in my last 2 pregnancies (1st pregnancy didn't have UC). HOWEVER. about 2 months after giving birth, I go into an awful flare. My daughter is now almost 6 months old and I going on my 4th month of this awful flare. Im currently waiting an appeal to get humira approved for me and had to call my GI today and told him I needed something to last until I get a yes or no on the appeal. I really hope you can have a symptom free pregnancy but I recommend staying on top of things because you could possibly pay later (I decided not to take meds while pregnant because I have no symptoms) like I did.
