Anyone heard/experienced Revelex (infusion)?

I've been told by my doctor that it changes the course of the disease. Can be life-changing but as it is a very big immuno-suppressant it has serious side-effects. One has to be careful not to contract TB, there is a chance of getting leukemia (not sure yet of all the details....) I cannot afford it as it is exorbitantly priced. Anyone know anything more about this drug? It's available here in SA.

It's the same thing as Remicade, just marketed under a different name.

Right. My doctor told me recently that this idea of "changing the course of the disease" is increasingly popular - to hit it quickly with the Remicade (for you Revelex) rather than doing the 5-ASAs and then the 6-MPs and on from the gentlest to the stronger meds: hit the UC quickly with the big immunosuppressants and "change its course." I wonder exactly what they mean by that..... I'd love to read more about it. New thinking is a good thing, in any case!

It crossed my mind too; what exactly is meant by 'changing the course of the disease' - hmmm - as long as it's for the better!

I await the day when they say ' A CURE FOR UC AND CROHNS HAS BEEN DISCOVERED!' - now that would be good. I think I'll daydream about that and put it out there in the universe on a daily basis. :-)

That's a risky strategy... to my knowledge, this methodology doesn't have much hard science (peer reviewed studies) behind it, so I'd ask your doctor to see some statistics before going for such a strong drug first.

Hi All

I have been infused with Revellex for the first time in Feb 2012, I had four infusions since.

Apart from the price, I cannot fault the drug. I experienced no side effects and gained 11kg

which I lost when I had a flare up in January 2012. I consume a normal diet and also have a protein shake daily. I avoid popcorn and nuts since I believe that those are culprits that can cause a flare up.

I also try not to get worked up unnecessarily

Painkillers are a definte no no, especially the ones used by sportsmen, (I am a marathon runner)

I am convinced that strong pain killers used in Comrades 2005 caused my first experience of

Ulcerative Colitis;

I enquired about Revellex and was informed that it is a 'protein drug' hence my decision to take

extra proteins'

Remicade (or Revellex) is great while it works. I have not tried it but my understanding from being on this board and watching people go down that road, is that it works for a period of time, sometimes many years but other times as short as a few months but eventually it loses it's effectiveness and the person may deal with future flare ups which will no longer respond to this treatment.

It's great for people who are in bad shape and need something quick to get them back to healthy status, but overall, does it have longterm success?

I wonder if 6mp/Imuran have more users who have had longer term success?

The greatest part about it is that you can have almost overnight success with the medication. People are in a severe flare up and a few days/weeks later, they can feel almost 100% - not everyone of course but many (some don't respond at all). If you need surgery, this may be a good option to get you to a healthy point so you are in better shape for surgery. I just worry, what's left after Remicade? All I can think of are more biologics, clinical trials, worms, LDN, FB, other alternatives...
