How long do you have to wait to switch form one 5asa to another?

I started Asacol two days ago because I'm giong in for laser resurfacing and it sulfsalzidine side effects says "some maybe more sensative to sunlight" so I switched to from sulfa to asacol and now I"m paying for it! I'm in the bathroom bleeding more and it's painful. Can I switch back and how soon do I have to wait? I have my doc checking into if I should stop sulfa before the lasering or just quit the night before. I know now asacol is not for me.

I have never waited when I switched but I would check with your GI. I didn't know that Asacol could cause light sensitivity, I know on 6mp you're not supposed to get too much sun.

When I switched from Asacol to Apriso, I just switched. But that was from one meslamine to another, so it' slightly different. I wouldn't think that you'd need to wait, though, between Asacol and sulfasalazine.

I do think I've heard that sulfasalazine can make you more sensitivite to the sun, and I really doubt that simply quitting the night before would be enough time for it to clear out of your system. I don't think I'd try to do the laser resurfacing while on it, nor would I not take medication to keep my UC under control just to have it done.
