Can someone explain the difference between Rowasa, Canasa, Salofalk, Bentyl, etc... I see all these RX names and I am trying to figure out what each of them are and what they do for what types of UC.

rowasa is an enema, canasa is a suppository, salofalk is canadian for mesalamine (it comes in suppository or oral I think), bentyl is something for cramps.

You can google each name and then look at "Images" (top upper left on my google page) to see what they look like.

Rowasa and Canasa are also both meslamines. Canasa treats the rectum:lowest part. Rowasa treats the rectum and sigmoid colon and can go pretty high up. They are actually retention enemas. You administer them at night and hold till the morning (preferably). Lialda and Asacol are oral mesalamines, coated with a special outer layer that breaks down in the colon and treats most of the colon, but at times, or generally, don't reach the lowest region (rectum/sigmoid colon). Flares seem to start and end in the lowest regions which are the most stubborn to treat. I think Salofalk is similar to Asacol and Lialda.
