another prednisone tapering question

to add to the tons already posted :-)

Started in the hospital with 45 mg IV for 2 days, saw improvement within hours.
Was on 30 mg for 7 days, 20 mg for 7 days and now finishing the 10 mg on Thursday.
GI wants me to go to 5 mg next for another 7 days but I've noticed that a lot of people have problems going from 10 mg to 5 mg.
Should I do 7.5 mg for 3 days and then 5 mg for 4 days?
This is my first time of prednisone and I'm thin (not sure if the dose is weight related).

I don't think the dose is weight related. I went from 10mg to 5mg with no problems. But if you have enough pills, what the heck, do the slow taper.

Since you have not been on prednisone for very long, you might be okay with a quick taper. Many people that have trouble have it because they have been on pred for months. Your GI is keeping you on a short dose (better for you). I would follow his instructions and if you have questions, give him a call to see what he recommends.

I think the way you were told to taper is standard. If you're not having any symptoms, you will probably be fine at the speed you're going. Some people go from 10 to 0! It didn't work out for me but that is because Asacol was no longer very effective for me.

What are your back up meds that are going to take over? Are you on orals, rectal enemas, suppositories. Don't go into the "scary" taper range without help. I'm into slower tapers under 10 mg.

journey2health, I'm on Lialda (4 pills/day), canasa suppository 1000 mg in the morning and cortifoam in the evening.
